MS Access and Merant 3.6 ODBC driver issues

Sorry. I use Access workgroups and the authorization error is what my
users report to me when they do not have access to the workgroup or
object. I'm assuming you are hitting the checkbox to save the password
otherwise Access would be prompting you for it from the ODBC driver. Is
it happening on just one machine or if it is happening on everyone's
computer? What version of Access are you using? Can you connect to the
database with another ODBC app to try an isolate if the problem is with
the ODBC driver, server or application?

I guess I am not being clear. The authorization fails with the
progress database, not the access one. Basically I can create an
access database, link the tables, and open them just fine. But once
I close the access database and come back in, the linked tables no
longer work. I then get the authorization error when trying to open
the linked tables. If I create a brand new access DB and link the
tables again it works. But only as long as I have it opened. Then
it breaks after I close it and come back in.

I am trying to copy a report from the report writer into Access. So I
link the tables in Access using the ODBC drivers. I use the login of
the person who created the database. It will let me link the tables.
But as soon as I close the Access database and re-open them, it no
longer works with the authorization failed message. Do I need to
create a new user for the DB and transfer dba rights? Or will this
mess vantage up? I also tried to link a server in SQL but had
absolutely no luck with authorization failing everytime I tried.
On the dialog where you are picking the Vantage tables you want to link
there is a check box on the lower right corner labeled "Save
Password". Try clicking that box, that might solve your problem.

Create a new Access database and link the tables to vantage. Import in
all the other objects from the database you are having trouble with
(queries, forms, reports, modules). When imported you will be the owner
of the objects.

The assumption is that your Access database is linked to the Progress
database so the data is always live. Access contains tables, queries,
forms, reports, etc. and that is what you are importing to a new file.
I don't believe you can import report builder reports. By creating a
new file, you are changing the owner of the objects - that is all -
which may fix your authorization issue.

Hi,

Be aware if moving forward with 8.0 that a few of the tables in 8.0 have
more indexes out of the box than Access can handle (I think the limit is
30), so you may need to modify database to do this.

I guess I am not being clear. The authorization fails with the
progress database, not the access one. Basically I can create an

I close the access database and come back in, the linked tables no
longer work. I then get the authorization error when trying to open
the linked tables. If I create a brand new access DB and link the
tables again it works. But only as long as I have it opened. Then
it breaks after I close it and come back in.

Hello,

Is anyone currently working with or testing RFID to work with Vantage? We are currently looking at ways we can better manage large, organic, dimensional inventory that resides outdoors.

Thanks,

Did you try checking the "Save Password" box when selecting the
tables you are linking like I mentioned after your initial question?

Its been a long time, but I swear I had the same issue when I first
got started with the new ODBC setup and I believe checking that box
took care of it. If not let me know and I'll start digging through
the dust bunnies in my memory.

I made a macro that links to Vantage Tables, create the tables needed
for reporting (you will know that not all fields are needed) and delete
the link tables again so no odbc connection is hanging all with 1 button
in a form. No user interference either since they only click on 1 button
to do it all. If you need help on this, email me directly and I will
help you.
