We link to Vantage via Access using ODBC Merant 3.5. What exactly are you
looking for?

We are in need of some documentation / installation procedures to create a
DSN for a MSACCESS to Progress link.
Anybody using Merant 3.50 ODBC?

Subject: [Vantage] Vantage 5.0 - ODBC Stability?

We are still on Vantage 4.0. We use ODBC to run some external applications
in MS Access linking to Vantage data in read-only mode. We also did the
same on Vantage 3.0. When we were on 3.0, it worked very smoothly, very
rarely was there a problem. Since we have been on 4.0 (over a year), we
find the ODBC connection to be very unstable, as I know others have. I was
wondering if anyone is using ODBC with 5.0 and if there have been
improvements in the stability?

Thanks,

Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I'm testing it now with 5.0 and there are till issues. Mainly, but not
limited to, the 255 character limit in Access fields.
I have a zip file from Tech Support that I will email to you. It contains
information on a fix that they claim will corrected
MOST of the issues. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't confirm the claim.

We are using 5.0 with ODBC driver 3.5 (not 3.6 which doesn't seem to allow
more than 3 joins--3.6 ships with 5.0). Works very well. We had no issues
with ODBC in 4.0 either. I would recommend staying with the 3.5 driver. I
didn't have a do a thing when upgrading--the reports worked without any
adjustments.

I am using the 3.5 drive as well, and what happens is, when we open the
linked table, or a query, form or report based on linked data, the entire
sheet is just filled with #error#. Usually, if we close and re-open or wait
a few seconds and try to form again, it'll work fine. However, this
'instability' is frustrating to the users. We did not have this problem
with 3.0, but have had it since going on 4.0. I'm hoping things are better
with 5.0.
