Multi-plant, Multi-site

May I add a little about Progress licensing policies.

From the server point of view, you need a separate Progress license for each
machine on which you install Progress. Thus three machines with progress
installed requires 3 licenses. However, One install of Progress on one
machine can support multiple databases. Thus, one machine with progress
installed supporting three databases requires one license. From the cost
point of view there is probably not much to choose between the two since
progress licensing is based on user count, but the one machine approach,
assuming you have the resources to support the total number of users, is
administratively simpler to deal with.

Please note: I am talking strictly about Progress. You will need to talk to
Epicor about the Vantage implications of three databases.

Has anyone implemented multi-site,multi-plant? The questions I have
are:
1. Will this option allow you to install separate databases on
different servers?
2. Is this the same as multiple installations of Vantage?
3. How do you apply patches and updates?
4. How does the licensing work?

Our requirements are: 1. separate databases on separate servers., 2.
different users on each database, 3. different security managers for
each database. There may or may not be a need to roll up
financials. Would multi-plant, multi-site work?

Thanks
Although I do not use the multi-site multi-plant module, I am running
3 companies on Vantage and I know a little about how the module works
as I looked into the benefits of purchasing it for multiple companies
(and found there were none).

server.
> 2. Is this the same as multiple installations of Vantage? NO, this
is one database, with different companies set up.

curently do.
> 4. How does the licensing work? How ever many licenses you have
are avavilable for the database. No distinction as to which licenses
are for which company.

We run three companies. Each user has authorization to different
companies, and if a user does not have authorization to a company,
they cannot see any of it's data, even though they may be able to see
all their own data.

If you need seperate databases, you would need three copies of
Vantage, the multi-site, multi-plant would not do this for you.

We have multi-site multi-plant implemented it is tricky especially with v4.0
the idea behind it is to use 1 database. If you do not need to roll-up
financials or have the databases directly communicate with each other you
should be able to have separate vantage databases running, but I have no
idea about the licensing issues. By the way if you also use MRP you will
encounter some snags with multi-site multi-plant. Have fun and good luck.
