Multiple logins for Plant floor on one PC

Run plant floor via Terminal Services and auto disconnect on a specific Idle
time amount.

Hi,

We use the plant floor interface on some of our shared pc's. I am
having a problem where users on one pc will fire up multiple plant floor
sessions on the same pc; eventually we bump up against the maximum
users.

Has anyone figured out a way to prevent multiple sessions of the shop
floor on the same pc? Different users login, so limiting on the user
level won't help.

We're on Vantage 6.1 patch 518.

Thanks and take care,

Steve

We have had this problem in the past. The best way to keep this from
happening is to start physically abusing the users. Works great and lets
you vent some of your frustration for working with a bunch of blockheads.

Steve,
In the past I have experimented with removing their ability to launch Shop
Floor at all (or anything else for that matter) using the group policy
editor, used TweakUI to autologon. Then add a simple string value to the
registry in localmachine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run to
start Shop Floor. Give them rights to log off, so if for any reason they
feel they need to start up a new copy the only option is to log off and back
on, or restart the computer (forcing the termination of any existing logon).
It was met with much resistance and I had to lighten up on the restrictions,
but it did work.
Good luck,
Aaron Hoyt

If you use a different login at each station, Shop1, Shop2, etc... Under
security you can uncheck the checkbox for "allow multiple sessions".

Pat, does that work with DC licenses? I have it unchecked with different
logins and you can still fire it off multiple times?! (5.2)

Matt,

That's how the help reads but obviously your finding other results.

Allow Multiple Sessions
Allow Multiple Sessions specifies whether or not the user can launch
multiple sessions of the system. If this user can, check this box.
Note: This field does not apply to security managers.
This option is activated only at session startup. A user must leave the
system and then re-enter for this change to take effect.

Hi Matt and Pat,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried it, and it doesn't work on the
plant floor login, according to Vantage support site this is by design.

The best thing I've come up with so far is to speak with the people (I'm
a pacifist, so no violence here), and I configured a periodic extract to
let me know when one pc has multiple plant floor logins. I then remote
in and kill the extra sessions.

Page 8915MPS

SUGGESTION: Unchecking 'Allow Multiple Sessions' should work in Plant
Floor.

I have that Plant Floor allows multiple logins, even if the user is set
to not allows multiple logins.

Steps to Duplicate:
1. In System Management->Security Maintenance->User, select a User.
2. Click the Security Tab and uncheck the Allow Multiple Sessions
button.
3. Edit the Plant Floor.vtg file and change the VantageLogin= line to
the username and password you modified.
4. Lauch Plant Floor.vtg.
5. Once Plant Floor is open, launch it again from the Plant Floor.vtg.

Per Development, this is by design. However, a change to allow this
would be transparent to users who did not activate it, but very useful
to users who do activate it.

Take care,

Steve
