Hey folks,

What is the recommended network speed when accessing vantage from other sites, i.e. somewhere where the actual server is not located. The server is on the domain and people can access it from miles away but are complaining it is too slow.

Regards,

Michael
Michael,

Not sure of your setup, but we find that using Server 2008 R2 and publishing the app (available starting with 2008 Server) you can publish the Epicor icon pretty much across the globe and the processing happens all on the terminal server. Of course you will need terminal server licenses and setup of local printers if that is available, but the flexibility and the speed increase is well worth any initial headaches.

Hi Jason,

Thank you for your reply.

We are using Vantage 8.03.406 on Win 2003 R2 server, Progres Backend. Is this version compatible with Terminal Server?

Regards,

Michael

Terminal Server is (sort-of) included with Microsoft Windows, its really
a licensing issue not new software. Choose Remote Desktop Connection
(start menu -> accessories), enter a server name, and you're (sort-of)
using terminal server. Windows servers typically allow 2 or 3
connections, to get more you need to buy "Terminal Server licenses" to
allow more people to connect.

We use it today for our remote locations, for Vantage 6.1 and Epicor
9.05 in testing, I'm sure that 8.03 would work. We have a separate
server with the client installed, and people remote into that instead of
the main Vantage server. The only configuration required was creating a
tiny script that starts Vantage then logs out afterwards, and setting
the user account details to automatically run that script.

Brian.
