Multiple Test Companies

James,

The easiest way is to use your latest back-up to restore the database in a
new location. Use Promon or progress explorer to finish the set up. Repeat
as necessary.

Subject: [Vantage] Multiple Test Companies

Does anyone know if you can set up MULTIPLE Test companies
We are using the live database and want to go live with it asap but we need
to test the data first
Naturally we will loose the info in the test database when we copy over the
live
But our GM wants to know if we can have multiple test companies
Test A = HR Testing compnay
Test B = Payble test company
Test C = BOM Testing company
etc etc etc

If this is possible how would you be able to get vantage to point to the
individual test companies?
Batch files?

Thanks

James,

Vantage tech support folks should be able to give you detailed instructions
on this ...

The short version is:

On your Vantage server .... Create a directory at the same level as
"Vantage" called "Meco-DB". Set this to Read-only to the network.

Under the "Meco-DB" folder create sub folders - one for each database you
want to setup.

Save your current DB using the standard Vantage/Progress backup utility.

Restore the Backup to each of the new folders you setup.

On your server - setup the new DB's under Progress the same basic way you
have your current DB setup.

The advantage to doing this as opposed to setting up multiple companies
under one DB is you can trash the copies to your heart's desire without
having to worry about your main DB.

I've heard of users who keep copies of the their production DB in separate
folders for: "Last" year end, "Last" month end, "Training" database, etc
etc etc.

You pay the price in disk storage for having multiple copies but the cost on
your available CPU capacity is negligible.
