Anybody know of anyone who would or could reconstruct a corrupt Progress database?
I've done it once or twice. What happened?

Don't really know, Epicor thinks it was bad hardware. We've switched servers, and they tried to get it up, but in doing an IDXBUILD we get 29 errors. .LG file shows problems like "System Error: Index in Char03 in MfgCube for recid 18804040 could not be deleted". Not sure how to proceed at this point, been down for 11 days.

Have you tried doing a data dump and load first? Or am I missing a comment and this is what you are trying to do already?

What about your backup. Couldn't you restore from a previous backup? Is that why you are thinking it a hardware problem. Just curious.

Dump and load seems to put our data back to May of 2010.   Some of the backups we had restored but would not startup others had CRC errors. Â

There should be some info on the Progress KBase for fixing this sort of thing, especially if you have the RECID, you can locate the offending records and dump around them without reading through the index.

Looks like there is an Index fix utility available now too, I haven't tried that.

http://progress.atgnow.com/esprogress/categoryBrowse.do

try "corrupt index" in the search, and "RECID" in must have words.

Entry P106594 looks promising!

Good Luck!

I am not sure if this is relevant to your question…

Back in version 6.1, I witnessed a database get corrupted due to hiding the share from users. The database was acting strangely. Fortunately, an online backup was made prior to rebooting the server. When the server came backup, the database would not start and was corrupted. The database was recovered from the backup and all was well.
