The answer to your question is that I believe you can get any version
of Vantage you want. We upgraded from 3.1 to 6.0, no major problems we
had Epicor do the database conversion and ran both in parallel for
awhile to train in. At time I purchased hardware that was suppose to
be version 8.0 compatible but now I don't know if it still is
compatible. We are still on Version 6.1.

Forget V6. They're not selling it anymore. You'll have to go to version 8

We're on V8. It was initially a rough road but it's getting better.
There are still some bugs to be worked out but I found that the learning
curve of our users was the main problem and our biggest obstacle.

Certainly there will be members of this group that will disagree. As
with all user groups, there is always the occasional bitchfest.

Service Packs and Patches are a lot less painful than they used to be.

If you are seriously considering Version 8, I must stress that unless
your company is committed to providing the appropriate infrastructure,
you will be asking for allot of headaches.

Epicor makes no secret about the fact the Vantage 8 requires significant
hardware resources. Check the hardware requirements criteria for V8 and
make sure that you can meet them. Normally, most systems emphasize
server resources but V8 is very heavy on the front end so client
capabilities are very important as well as the server.



Even if V6 were still an option, I would recommend against it because
Epicor is committing less and less attention to supporting it.

We are stilling using V3 and are making the jump to V8.
We are taking the project as a new install.
We are going to only import selected things (Customers, Vendors) with
Epicor's help.

Business changes over time so we will redevelop our procedures to
reflect what we learned from V3
and the way our business runs now.

Smart man....I wish I could do the same for me company....we've brought
bad habits in from
version to version and everyone here is going to freak when they see
version 8!

Version 8's copy and paste feature should also help to some degree with
your importing.....

Hello new member,

We are currently converting from an Epicor product
called dataflo, and there are some issues with V-8. I
do want to say that I think V-8 will eventually get
their but there are some wholes...

Being from an IT background, V-8 biggest complaint is
that you will not get source code; however they have a
SDK (Developers Kit) that our IT department has not
been trained on

1st If you want CRM it is really weak...

2nd If you have a salesforce like we do and an
unusual customer base there could potentially be a
problem.... We have 3 different product lines that
have their own unique saleforce that could sell to the
same customer. Our customer base is Universities,
Research Facilities, Governmental, etc....(we
manufacturing to stock high-tech research
instruments)This is a major problem and our
implementation go-live date of 11/1/06 hinges on the
outcome. I can go into great detail off-line if you
are interested.(tracy.otto@...)

3rd If sales tax is an issue for your company, there
is no intergrate to a 3rd party taxing software as of
yet, but this is not a problem. Li-Cor is paying for
a custom program interface to AvaWare which is
Taxware/Avalara.... Epicor's intention was to have
this interface done by go-live and they will have some
of the fields done but it won't be complete, so we are
just going to have the rest of the interface customed
program, which will probably end up in base line V-8.

Other than that there are some issues that once we
start modeling I think we will be able to work
through. There are a lot of procedures that Li-Cor
will have to change; however, that should be expected.

Li-Cor has been with Epicor since 1999, they are a
very good company and I am confident they are going in
the right direction.
