Hi everyone,

Been watching the group in 'lurker' mode but hope to start getting more involved as we start to look forward to new versions of Vantage, which I understand becomes just 'Epicor' in version 9.

Being new here, I'm hoping that someone can direct me to a file that covers general eGroup rules and regulations - I used to be very active on Usenet and about once a month the various groups would automatically send a FAQ or similar document covering general posting rules and such.

Also, we're currently using Vantage 6.1 with Progress 9.1D - would there be any benefit to moving to a newer version of Progress? Can it even be done?

Thanks,
Chuck S.
Hi Chuck,

Welcome!

The rules of the forum are fairly straight forward,

Ask away at your hearts content, some of us are handier than others (less
so with 6), but odds are you'll get some answer.
Be courteous to others
And do not spam the forums

There are end users, technical users, DBAs, and consultants all in the
group. The consultants (have time and time again strictly forbidden from
spamming or contacting users without first being asked to do so)

Overall, its an extremely helpful group of people, who like to help each
other, and although the 6.X crowd is dwindling you can still find a few,
also a lot of the answers you'll see apply across the board with some
caveats.

In regards to upgrading the Progress DB, if it ain't broke don't fix it, if
you are planning on going to E9 at some point you'll have to go through the
upgrade cycle then.

Cheers

One bit of advice (not a rule or anything) is to put the versions of Vantage (or Vista, MfgSys, Epicor....) and the database (SQL, Progress) in the subject of the post.

I find it handy when browsing or searching posts. Since my company is running 8.03 with Progress 10.1, seeing a posts with the subjects: "BAQ Printing Problem (ver 9.0)" or "Performance Tuning (8.03, SQL)" lets me know that I might not found the info useful, or be able to help.

Just my 2 cents

Calvin
