No Access During Month End Closing

It may be easier to shutdown the database using ProControl.
If only 1 user is allowed to access Vantage, create a single
user .vtg file.

The single user .vtg file is the same file you use to access vantage
normally, except for the connect options.
Usually they look like
connectoptions= -N TCP -H Server -S vantage

for single user replace it with connectoptions = -1

also very handy for patches and data conversions.

Does anybody have a sure-fire way to keep users out of the database during
the month end closing process? We have multiple sites, are nearly 24/7, and
we need a way to lock out users when we upgrade to v4.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

You could change the share access from the Vantage folder so you are the
only one that can access the folder.. It's a bit long winded though.

I have problems for time to time when rebooting the server because of a
major problem, I use the switch software and turn all the ports off except
mine and the server. It's a nightmare with a reboot and 40 odd pc's trying
to login at the same time.

Turn off their hub/switch.

We no longer allow attachments to files. To access/share Report Files,
please go to the following link: http://www.egroups.com/files/vantage/
(Note: If this link does not work for you the first time you try it, go to
www.egroups.com, login and be sure to save your password, choose My Groups,
choose Vantage, then choose Files. If you save the password, the link above
will work the next time you try it.)
Disable all users except for the neccessary people. Then reactivate them all
afterwords.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I need a solution our Finance VP can handle on Sunday mornings when he comes
in to do his month-end thing. I can't kill the switch because we have Access
& FoxPro applications running for barcode labeling. I'll have to look closer
at changing the share permissions.

Thanks again,

This sounds like a good suggestion for EPICOR to add to the package.

From the server console, you can pause the Net Logon service. Goto the
Control Panel, Services and just pause the Net Logon service. This stops
the computer from authenticating users access rights to files, etc. This
will allow only those people that are connected to the server to stay
connected to the server. Once you are ready to allow users back on then just
press the Continue button.
