When I run Global Scheduling, there is a field called Number of Schedulers. We have this set to 1. What does this mean? The help file and documentation didn’t shed any light on this. Does adding more schedulers make the process faster?
Thanks!
Nate
Yes. Number of Schedulers = the number of separate threads that are being used. I believe it cannot be greater than the number of cores you have on the server.
Is it generally accepted that you run as many cores as you have? And if we are cloud dedicated tenancy, do we have the server? How do I find out how many cores are on the server?
Thanks!!!
No, how many schedulers is really based off of the size of what is being scheduled. I would just run some tests. Start with 2 and note the time. Look at the logs and see if any were paused for a while. Just keep on adding a scheduler and keep on reviewing until you get it dialed in for your process.
I have no idea. Maybe open a ticket?
Thanks! I will report back!
I had talked with tech support months ago and they told me that they dedicate 2 core, so 2 is what you would want.
IF your MRP is still taking too long, you can create a ticket and increase the number of cores from 2 to 3 and test that. In our case, we had them increase from 2 to 3 so the number of threads we have are now defaulted to 3 as a scheduled process.
Support replied and said that our cloud server has 3 cores, so we can set it to 3 at most. I have played around and tried 1 through 8 processors, and none of the changes seemed to change the amount of time it takes to run the process. So I guess I won’t worry about it.
Thanks!
Nate
I think where it matters most is if you are doing a REGEN - which we do every night. (I know, I know). Glad you got 3 cores though, that will certainly help if not here, in other processes.
