You might try turning OFF the connection pooling for the ODBC driver
you're using.

I'm trying to configure ODBC for use with both Vantage 3.0 and 4.0. I have
the Merant 3.5 driver installed on a client workstation. I am now at a loss
how to go about connecting via ODBC to the 8.3 and/or 9.0 Progress/Vantage
database. I've configured a connection on the client but have been
unsuccessful in my "test connect". I get a bunch of errors in a dialog box
whenever I attempt that. Is there something I need to be doing at the
server also? Neither have I been successful in finding a "how-to" in order
to help me out.

I know a lot of you folks are experienced in ODBC. Anyone experienced in
this that wouldn't mind walking me through a connection? I really am a fast
learner so it wouldn't take a whole lot of time. Please call me or contact
me off-list.

I've uploaded the Epicor support documents to the file area. Included are
the documents for installation in 3.0 and 4.0, along with the 4.0
troubleshooting docs. Just follow these instructions and you should be
going in no time.

Hi Ted,
If you are attempting to install ODBC for Vantage 3.0 and 4.0 on the same machine, I believe you will have to pick one or the other. The variables that are placed into the autoexec.bat files cancel each other out (so to speak). The best suggestion I've been given is to use flow control in your autoexec.bat file to choose which setup you want to use each time you reboot that computer.

Unfortunately, I haven't pursued this any further than what I've stated above. I'd love to hear if anyone else has a better idea.

You can configure batch files to change any of the needed set variables and
run them before you connect to the needed database. That is how I've
configured this in the past. Just put the set variables in a batch file.
You can even configure the batch file to reset the values back to the
original values if you wanted. This would avoid rebooting.

If you're running NT on the client, you can define the environment
variables on a per-user basis. Still doesn't get you simultaneous access,
but it's a bunch quicker that rebooting the machine each time.

no success. It's amazing the results and help one gets from fellow vantage
users. Now on to my dilemma of getting the phone number and fax number to
show up on the sales order acknowledgement.
