Hi all,
I have an app that we use to print shipping labels that we've used
for almost 2 years. We're on version 5, with the old Merant 3.6 ODBC
driver, and the app is in Access 97. The machines in shipping were
recently upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows XP and we had many
problems with the App connecting to the progress DB and updating the
records in the App.
The program works most of the time, but locks up at random intervals
and after a few minutes will display a useless dialog that says:
"Microsoft Access has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of
something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please
tell Microsoft about this problem..."
Then you have the option to Send the Error Report or not.
After closing the dialog Access closes, we can then open up the DB
and it will function fine again for a while.
After a few days of repeated problems we loaded Windows 2000 on the
machines instead of XP. The apps are working a lot better, but still
there have been a couple of similar errors in the past week or so.
2000's dialog is different from XP and there is no option to send the
error report, but it is happening at the same point in the program.
Anybody out there familiar with these kinds problems when changing
operating systems?
