NT guru's.... Our Dual-450 server is pegged at 100% CPU usage. The culprits are two instances of oidrvr32.exe, which were started when Crystal access ODBC. Both of the reports that started the oidrvr32.exe have been shut off (they didn't progress after four hours). but the processes for oidrvr32.exe keep chugging along hogging 45 to 50% of the CPU each.

Clicking End Task on the server (in Task Manager) doesn't kill them off because of an "Access is Denied" error. (I'm logged on as Administrator).

Besides restarting the server, does anyone know of a way to stop this beast (oidrvr32.exe)?

Kill them with the Vantage Monitor option 8 then look for the System process
that has a start date that matches.

Troy,

Do you have the NT resource kit? Look for a utility called KILL.EXE. You have to have the PID (Process ID) from Task Manager, then enter "kill pid". If you don't have the Resource Kit, send me an e-mail...

Troy,

In 4.0 you should be able to kill them with ProControl.
Click Details, select Other Tasks. Select ODBC broker
shutdown, click Start.

If this does not work, you can try kill or pskill. If
you need these utilities, email me off-list.

have fun,
john

I've had this happen in Vantage 4.0 with Crystal 7 the oidrvr32 is a
Progress "System" session.
I used the time stamp (I knew when the report and therefore the oidrvr32 was
started) and killed that Progress session and watched the process on the NT
Task Manager just disappear.

It worked for me. Check in your monitor and see how many System Con:
sessions are running. You should see more than 1 and 1 or 2 of them are the
problem.

Best regards,

Jerry Solobay
