ODBC Connection to vantage 6.1

If you have a promon shortcut which I would advise.

You just execute promon the select 8 then the user number then 1.

The prompts really guide you.

Just be careful because these could be live connections it should say
odbcuser I think.

It will really be helpful if you can advise me how to close ODbc
connections from promonitor.

Just one more question:

When i try to connect to Vantage via ODBC in crystal report, I get an
error message " The Operation system denied access to a specifies
file" only on my system. I don't know what is happening.

I had that problem awhile back, and I think I had to change my progress license(s) setup.
Anyone else know for sure?

I do not think the odbc driver closes the connections :( We restart our
server every night for this reason in addition sometimes we have to use
promon to go in and close odbc sessions. Connections are $ free they only
cost some memory and cpu my -n parameter is very big. We use odbc
everywhere on custom forms, reports, applications and on the intranet.

Frank,
The ODBC connections do close themselves unless there is a glitch just like
Vantage licenses.
You need to beware though, for instance if you have an ODBC connection in a
subreport of a crystal report that you can create many connections at once
that will all stay open until the report is closed. I was finding problems
when I used ODBC to deal with the Rep issue on SO Acknowledgements. Each
open SO form would create 5 ODBC connections. The all cleared when the
report was printed and closed, but admins had them open on their desktops
for hours. They would close themselves after the call was ended, but what
you may be facing is something like Access connection left open by someone
have a form or report still open. You might want to investigate the cause
further. I use ODBC extensively and only reboot the server every 3 to 6
months depending on OS updates.
Good luck,
Aaron Hoyt

On the Business Queries, yes. If you select the format of the Query to be
XML and then start up the Process Server on a computer. Within the process
server you will need to set a delay and then (very important to set delay
first) start the Business Activity Query Process. Without a delay it will
run the query back to back and consume tons of resources.
Unfortunately it seems that only the XML format queries are exported by the
schedule. This is designed to feed the ASP pages that it can auto generate
for you, but you could exploit it for your benefit if you can work with the
XML export format.
Good luck,

I do not think the odbc driver closes the connections :( We restart our
server every night for this reason in addition sometimes we have to use
promon to go in and close odbc sessions. Connections are $ free they only
cost some memory and cpu my -n parameter is very big. We use odbc
everywhere on custom forms, reports, applications and on the intranet.

We have setup for 40 connections and we are using less than 10 licenses
