ODBC Reports Blank Title 98833

We run Vantage on a SQL 2005 Database and then created views in SQL with no-lock and have our Crystal Reports hit these views.

Hi All

How do you write an ODBC report to connect into Epicor?

Where do you find the user name and password?

Does any one have any documentation on this?

Thanks,

CHRIS

Hi Vic

When I get to Page two (Admin Tools > Data Sources) I get an error that says
'The setup routines for the DataDirect 1.20 32-Bit Progress SQL92 v10.0B ODBC
driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver.'

We are using OE101C.

I tried looking for the DLL files in oe101c\bin and they werent there.

Any suggestions?

Also, when I tried installing for the first time (pg 1), it said the xyz
extension is already in use ...

Thanks,

CHRIS

If you are using progress you need to copy some .dll files from the server then create a registry entry that points to the progress ODBC driver dll files.

From there you can create a report using an ODBC driver then embed a DSN-less connection string in the report so others can open and view the reports within the Vantage menu.

Doesn't the ODBC kit from tech support make all this happen?

On the client. This will setup the driver. Then you need to setup a DSN, using that driver, to point to the Vantage database, using the correct port number and supplying the sysprogress username and password

Better yet, create a new user/password and grant read access only to
those tables that you'll want to expose via ODBC. It keeps people from
accidentally (or not) updating the database and hides tables that you
may not want others to see.

Mark W.
Absolutely!

We had eveyone using sysprogress/sysprogress for some reason when I started here.
The only way to purge the user permissions is to do a dump & load, but then I set up:
odbcuser/odbcuser READ all tables except PR Tables etc. by modifying the permissions file from Epicor in the ODBC Kit, and delete the entries for those tables that you don't want them to access.

odbcmaster/(password that only certain people know) READ ALL TABLES.

Set all regular users to odbcuser/odbcuser and those few to the odbcmaster that need it.

Change the password for sysprogress to something else also.

Note: In the ODBC Kit, they have a .bat file to automatically run the SQL commands to set the permissions on the new user. In the line of codethat is in the bat file:

set dlc="D:\Progress\openedge"
call "sqlexp" mfgsys -H localhost -S 9450 -user sysprogress -password (your sysprogress password) -infile odbcuser.txt -outfile odbcuserresult.txt -sqlverbose

You need to use the sysprogress user and password, not the new odbcuser and password!

Good luck,

George Hicks

You can avoid having any open ODBC connections on client computers. As well as avoid having a mapped network drive straight to the data folder sitting on the server.

If each client has the progress driver and the registry entries pointing to the dll files, then a DSN-less connection string would work great. This is the way handle all my custom reports.

We are currently on Vantage 8.03.409C.

I was wondering if anyone decided to use ODBC \ OLE DB (ADO) for there crystal reports.

If so do you have to remap your crystal reports everytime you restore to a train\test db.

If you do not how do you achieve this.

Everytime I restore to a training \ test database it is taking forever as I have to map the Crystal Reports to a new location.

It would be so much easier if automatically selected the database.

Any help appreciated.
