Any luck on this yet? I've gotten the file DSN to work on 5.1 without it asking for the Login. You would need to do this on every workstation that uses ODBC. Without looking at your settings it would be hard to tell what exactly is going on.
Did you apply the userfix and odbcfix patches to the database as well?

Ever since upgrading last weekend from 4.0 to 5.1, we're being asked
by any ODBC application (I.E. Crystal) to enter the "sysprogress" Id.
and PW. I have an Epicor doc. that instructs how to create a File
DSN, and then add the statement "PWD=sysprogress" to the DSN file that
is generated. Seems pretty simple, except all of our users are still
being asked to enter the Id. and PW. With 4.0, they didn't have to.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong ( I guess Epicor gave up on me)?
