Ron,
I have never run into that error with a comment field, but have had
similar problems with the part description field, which is also a l o
n g
field (blob, it is sometimes called). Crystal doesn't let you use
formulas
on blob or memo fields that are beyond 250 characters. The answer in
Crystal is to use an expression that truncates the field to 250
characters.
Then it seems you can use it in formulas and groups.

Hi,

I am getting the following error when running a crystal report from
ODBC. Dose anyone know a work around? Any help would be appreciated.

" ODBC error: [MERANT][ODBC PROGRESS driver][PROGRESS]Column
CommentText
in table PUB.JobHead has value exceeding max length or precision."

If I remove the JobHead.commentText field from the report it runs
fine.

Thanks,

I am just wondering if there are many Vantage users out there who are using
the Data Collection module. We are going to start soon and I'm looking for
info on the best way to go? When I called "Vantage Sales" I was told "We
sell the software not the hardware" and we can use whatever hardware we
want. Question is, what's our choices? And where can we get it?
I think your choices are custom enclosed PC's or old office PC's and of
course if you want to go deploy them with citrix. We are running 60, 90 and
133mhz Pentium PCs which were used in the office first. Some with as low as
32mb of RAM, WIN98. Half have 15" monitors the other half 17". Ten of my 15
stations have light pens. They were used a lot when we went live but not so
much now.

We no longer allow attachments to files. To access/share Report Files,
please go to the following link: http://www.egroups.com/files/vantage/
(Note: If this link does not work for you the first time you try it, go to
www.egroups.com, login and be sure to save your password, choose My Groups,
choose Vantage, then choose Files. If you save the password, the link above
will work the next time you try it.)
We use old office PCs for our data collection (7). They are 133 with 32
megs ram, but I am upgrading them to 64 megs for speed and NT for security.
We use scanners with prox sensors with ID badges made with BarTender by
Seagull Software to punch in and out of work and jobs. There has been a
fair amount of customization to some of the travelers and such but it was
all done internally. I am trying out a touch screen add-on costing less
than $200 for a 15" monitor, but so far the success is limited due to the
distance between the screen and the face of the monitor (creates a
perception difference depending on height). My feeling is that a
combination of the touch screen and the scanners is the right combination.
We still have some issues with accuracy due to some feeling it is faster to
enter their employee number by hand and entering it inaccurately, or the
same for the job number. If you would like further information on how we do
things, I would answer any specific questions happily.

Goodmorning Vantage Users,

Just curious if anyone has solutions to somehow change the default job status
filter for clocking into production. It currently defaults to "open'" and
shows a listing off all jobs to possible have labor clock into when I would
like it to default to "released." From what Epicor says this can not be
changed, I just had to see if any users are as frustrated as I am and
possible have alternatives to this ?

Thank You,

Gary Waldman

I have been assigned to start collection information regarding the Data
Collection module. Currently, we use manual labor and material collection
processes.

I would appreciate if anyone using the data collection module could provide
me feedback. I am concerned with the amount of training involved and
implementation time. Also, suggestions on hardware (bar coding, touch
screen, terminal entry...). Does anyone use bar coding to track material
receipts and material locations? How about Warehouse locations and shipping
info?

Feel free to contact me directly!

Thanks!
