Odd PO Suggestions (help me understand)

So we run full regenerative MRP every night (without the Turbo checkbox checked).
image

We have jobs that primarily consume parts from inventory.
Time Phase after first MRP (none of the jobs have this part marked Purchase Direct on the jobs):

New PO Suggestions:

We have Mul Order Qty of 100 selected for this part, but you can see that none of the 3 suggestions are multiples of 100 pieces.

The buyer did not act upon the suggestion, so after the next overnight MRP run, the suggestion changed to a single line in multiples of 100 (this is what I expected from New PO suggestions, but it is not what we got after the first MRP run).

New PO Suggestions:

.

So does the MRP run do things in a certain order where it ignores Multiple Order Quantity when evaluating part demand for jobs the first time MRP runs on a newly firmed job? Then the second time MRP runs, it consolidates job demand and then evaluates Multiple Order Quantity?

This is hard for me to understand because the results are different from a consecutive MRP run.

AFAIK PartPlant.UrgentMultQty only applies to urgent planning suggestions.

If you want that restriction on all of your suggestions you are meant to use the Lot Sizing fields.

Maybe the differences in results were a result of only the second round of suggestions being urgent suggesitons.

Garret,
I can accept your Urgent Mult Qty explanation, but why are there 3 suggestions in lieu of 1 consolidated suggestion (none of the jobs are marked purchase direct for this part)?

Edit from above. Garret based on the Order by dates being in the past for the first MRP run suggestions and the second MRP run suggestion, both should be considered Urgent.

You might want to try running generate suggestions again with ‘Allow Historical Dates’ set to true to get a better idea of what Epicor is actually trying to do, but it is most likely a timing issue.

I am making some assumptions here from your screenshots so bear with me. It looks like the min OH for this part is 500, and you have 380 on hand.

First PO is for 120 to get you back to minimum.
One Job on 11/20 bringing you 4 below min, so you see a PO for 4 to get you back up again.
3 jobs on 11/21 bringing you 12 below min agaon on that day, so another PO for 12 to get you back above min again on that day.

The problem is your lead time on this part makes it impossible for Epicor to place POs that arrive on time, the best it can do is get everything in on 11/28.

When setting up Multiple Order Quantity for a purchased part, should we be using the Urgent Planning?

Or should we be using Lost Sizing Multiple?

According to Epicor help, one is for Urgent planning (but not for “standard” planning) and the other is for manufactured parts and job creation.

The help is misleading, use lot sizing multiples. It is for manufactured parts and job creation and PO suggestions and PO quantities.

I not sure either of these fields is what you need. Have you considered the field, Min Order Qty (PartPlant.MinOrderQty) just above in the Purchasing section. The field description is: Used to establish a suggested Order Qty when purchasing this Part for this Site. This value will be shown on the time phase report.

Bruce,
We are looking for multiples (the items are packed in containers that hold 100 pieces). If we used Min Order quantity, our suggestions might be 101 or 102 pieces (over the minimum of 100, but not in any multiples).
