[off topic] Camera and audio taping

Having installed video camera's in a company in PA I can tell you
you can install video camera's on the shop floor and any "Work" area
or area you need for security reasons IE: outside shipping and
recieving area, Parking Lot etc., etc., etc.

You cannot put video camera's in any employee "REST" area. IE:
breakroom, locker room, or lavatory.

As far as sound in PA goes you need a search warrant to record
sound.

I did 3 installs of camera's in the Bloomsburg Area of PA when I
lived there ... one was for a company I was employed by at the time.

If a company adds video camera's with or without audio do they have to
notify employee's? (I'm in PA)

Thanks.

Not sure if it was required but we just added a video system and about a dozen cameras. We did put up signs on all doors and at the gates to the property informing that video surveillance is taking place. Partly though I think the signs were more for deterrent value than a requirement since this is private property. Go into most stores and look for the "eye in the sky" and you likely will not see any notification.

PS...I am now configuring the server that will store images to be able to "share" them via an internal web site so managers in the office can watch the plant.

It all comes down to your states take on "Expectations of Privacy". I
would consult an attorney before proceeding (sad isn't it). Just my 2
cents.

You can add video surveillance equipment without notifying employees, customers, etc...however you cannot record audio without individual consent.
