(off topic) Design printers

Hi Wendy

We use an HP 1100c with our MasterCam suite, excellent A3 printer and cheap
consumables.

Hey everyone!! I need to purchase another printer for our MasterCAM
department. It's going to be a standard desktop printer, not a plotter. I
was wondering.......our designers only need RED and BLACK colors when they
print. The color cartridge runs out quicker than the black cartridge.
We're not looking to purchase some amazing printer to do the job, just a
standard, plain-ole printer. We are trying to keep the cost under $300.
Any one have any suggestions?

Wendy,

It may cost more up front but look for a HP printer with 4 different
cartridges - one for each color plus black.

Once you factor in the cost of ink over the next 3 to 4 years the extra cost
up front may still be cheaper.

Here are some ideas for printers. All of these printers have separate ink
cartridges for each color. This should help with your cost of consumables.

Canon models S400 ($100) and S450 ($150). The HP BusinessJet 2250TN ($1000)
and the Xerox DocuPrint M750 ($130).

The November 21, 2000 issue of PC Magazine has test results for over 31
printers. You can also access the results via the Web at

Hope this helps.
