[Off Topic] Excel will not run

Dan,

Thanks for the suggestions but this user has been using excel for 2 1/2
yrs. on this machine. I'm not sure what would have changed is
privileges to run excel.

This usually happens when the user does not have any privledges to run
programs on the machine. Set the user up as a Power User on the machine
and try it again

The problem seems local to his specific user profile, so you may want to
consider backing up any documents in his profile folder, and delete the
folder (while logged on as local admin). When he logs back on, a new
fresh
profile will be created.

Hello Group -

I have a Windows NT workstation that, this morning it started to receive
a Dr Watson Error when you start up. It will not let you run excel. If
I log onto another user

It works fine. I stopped everything in his start up. But no luck. I
also uninstall and reinstalled. Still does not work.

Any ideas? BTW, Office 2000.

There may not be enough information here to help you out specifically,
posting the error that you get, especially the file that the program is
crashing on would help a lot.

However, here are some things to check for and perform that may be of some
help:

1) Reinstall NT 4.0 SP6a on the machine.
2) Reinstall the latest Service Pack for Office 2000 (I believe its 2, maybe
its 3)
3) Look for documentation to do a CLEAN reinstall via the command prompt of
Office 2000 (Should be something down the lines of setup.exe /a) (However,
this option may no longer be available in O2K and higher, it was in O97)
4) Scan your computer for Virus', there is a virus out there that will stop
Excel from running under particular profiles.
5) Delete the profile under an Administrator login and have the user log in
again to recreate it (make sure they no files saved in important places such
as Desktop, Favorites, Etc.)
6) Search the Microsoft Knowledgebase (Ask them the question, 90% of the
time, I find the article I need to resolve my problems painlessly, you may
want to do this first to save yourself the pain of doing the first 5 things
I mentioned).
7) Search Google (sounds simple, but I guarantee someone else has had this
problem and most likely asked the exact question in a newsgroup as you did
here. Google could show you the answer as well.)
7) If all else fails, Format C: \U (sorry, I ran out of ideas).

This SHOULD help you resolve the problem, if not, send me the exact error
that Dr, Watson is giving you and I will see if I can think of anything more
to try.
