OFF TOPIC [Internet Phone]

Dina,

Me You is correct.

Roger Wilco is and was designed for gamers.
On the other hand I have never used it for that purpose.

NetMeeting is a definite step up in functionality. And it is also free.

But being paranoid I shy away from programs that give users control of
a PC over the internet.

If you need functionality, Net Meeting is (may be) a better choice.

If you just want simple verbal communications Roger Wilco may
be a better choice.

On a personal note about NetMeeting, I have had trouble in the past
getting a connection through Microsoft's servers.
Whereas Roger Wilco makes a more or less direct connection
from one PC to another.

Roger wilco is for Gamers so they can chat durring
play.
If you want to chat with a rep i would say MS
Netmeeting would be much better.
It will do voice vid as well as desktop sharing.
so f the rep needs to show you how to fix something
you can simply give control to your system and the
rep can help you. this is a free download.

I know this is way off topic, but we have such a well rounded,
intelligent group, I thought maybe somebody out there would have an
opinion.

My boss wants me to find more information on internet phone. We have a
service rep. that lives in Switzerland and calls us alot. Our phone
bills are astronomical since he started working for us.

Anyways, he heard or read somewhere about internet phones and was told
we could do call him for free via the internet. Has anyone played with
this or know anything about it. Or can give me a solution.

I do not know much about this at all, I am hoping someone could help me.

I used to use DialPad.com to call Seattle, but it was only for within the US
and I think they just filed for bankruptcy. There are others but I think
they have all gone to charging subscriptions. With a dialup it was pretty
choppy, but I think with broadband you could get a decent connection.

Dina,

I downloaded a freeware IP to IP program called GPhone from
WebAttack.com. Haven't got around to testing it, but it seems to get
good reviews.

http://www.webattack.com/get/gphone.shtml

If you try it, please let me know how it works out.

Yahoo has a partnership with Net2phone - it is no longer free, but I have a
friend that calls me from eastern Canada (I am in Washington State) and it
is much less expensive than the $.89 per minute (night rate) on the regular
phone. There is free voice chatting through Yahoo Messenger - if you have a
webcam you can even see each other in a private message. All you need for
voice chatting is a microphone attached to your PC. Feel free to contact me
offlist if you need more information.

Dina

If all you need to do is talk with this rep, I suggest you check into a chat program.
My recommendation is Roger Wilco.
I use this program to speak with my brother about 1200 miles away.
Works great.... download is free... easy to use..... no impact on phone bill....
and so far very reliable.
