OFF TOPIC - Network Monitoring and Securing

Michael,

Thanks, this looks simple enough.

Here is another powerful toy that you could schedule with command line
options:

http://grc.com/wizmo/wizmo.htm

But once again, if someone is working when the schedule trips, they get
booted off. Then if the log back in and leave you're back to square one.
One sure way would be to lock down the policies that enforced everyone to
have a specific screen saver (one that logs you off) or enforce passworded
screen savers.

Michael,

Whatever it takes to ensure cleaning people don't have open access to a pc
left open by someone who forgot to logout or lock their PC.

What do you mean by locked? powered off? logged out? password protected
screen saver running?

All,

Is there any way to monitor what PC's are not locked when users leave for
the day?
List all PC's at 6:00PM which are not locked?
Anyway to schedule this on all PC's in the office?
All comments appreciated.

Attached is a program I wrote years ago to shutdown/reboot windows if it
helps. I still use it for remote desktop sessions for the options to
Logout, reboot, shutdown the remote pc. You could schedule this program in
windows to run at 6pm with windows scheduler and pass in the variable
/REBOOT or /LOGOFF or /SHUTDOWN from the command line to have the computer
do what you want to do. Not too keen if someone is working at 6 since it
does a Forced Shutdown.

There is lots of other things you could do depending upon how much
programming you wish to do, but you could have a small program running on
all pc's that broadcasts its status over the network and have a program on a
server listening for them and keep tabs of what's going on and send commands
out to the workstations to reboot them. This is what I use on the shop
floor to keep track of the data collection stations to make sure dc is
running. If the listening program on the server doesn't hear from a pc in
over one hr, I'm notified by e-mail of which station and I can run out and
check it.
