Rick,

Well here is what I have found out...

The executable that runs the Task Scheduler is "mstask.exe". I shut off the Scheduler service, then tried to run mstask.exe from a command line. I got an error message that says you can't do that, use the "Scheduled Tasks" folder to control the service. I found the folder... "C:\Winnt\Tasks". In there I found an Add Scheduled Task icon. When I double-clicked it, and walked through the wizard (creating a useless, harmless task) it started the Task Scheduler service automagically. This is on NT4 with IE5. Actually just kicking off the "Add a Task" wizard launched the Scheduler service.

Maybe something here will help you out...

Matt

I use at scheduler for backups.
Today I discovered scheduler has disappeared from the services program!
I went to our father microsoft knowledge base but search yielded
nothing.
Before I sign up for expensive "per incident" assistance, I thought one
of ya'll might have some input (which is of course is greatly
appreciated!!)
