You could also install an aftermarket PCI ATA-100 controller card. This
will gie a performance boost, along with large drive compatibility.

I know this is off the topic but I need help.

I have an old asus TXP4 motherboard, I am trying use a Seagate Baracuda
40G hard drive. I can not get the mother board to recognize the hard
drive. I have the current Bios flashed. I do not care if the
motherboard only recognizes it as a 8.4g hard drive.

Any ideas?

Dina.

You may have to install the Seagate drive overlay. The second possibility is to check your manual or call Seagate and see if there is a jumper setting that will let the
BIOS see the entire drive. I think the second solution will work best.

I just ran into this adding a 100GB drive to an older PC. The BIOS would
not recognize more than 32GB. I downloaded MaxBlast-Plus from the Maxtor
site (free) and it includes EZ-BIOS which tricks the system into "seeing"
the drive as 32GB but Windows sees all 100GB. To get the drive to be "seen"
at all I had to set a jumper on the drive (similar to master/slave) jumper.
I have used MaxBlast on many different drive brands.
