[off topic] printer - copier combination

We are also currently in the market for a copier/printer, however,
not looking for color capability. Our local Canon dealer has offered
us a very good price on a refurbished Image Runner 400. Canon is
supposed to be the number one ranked brand in the industry and
generally are a little more expensive to maintain. However, the
price of the refurbished unit makes them more competitive on
pricing. Look at the price to put them under maintenance contracts
when comparing machines, that's where the cost differences are.
Negotiate an annual 4% or 5% increase cap on the maintenance
contract and stretch it out at least 5 years. My experience is they
will offer 3 year price increase caps but will stretch it to five if
you ask. I am told the warranty on the refurbished unit is the same
you would receive on a brand new unit. Our sister company is using
two digital Canon copiers and raves about their reliability. I don't
know if they offer any color refurbs, but I would suggest you look
into the Canon refurbs if cost to purchase is a major issue.

Sorry for the off topic.

I need to find a copier that is also a network laser printer. Color would
be nice. Ohh, I should mention inexpensive. But I might not have a
choice on price.

My copier is on its last leg and the printer (HP 5000gn) died today. I
don't need 11 x17 on this printer any longer.

Not color but I am realy happy with our Ricoh Aficio 1035. We added the fax port as well. They have a scanner option but I would not get that now that I found out how to pull to my PC items stored in memory. Altogether it makes a great combo and sure beats having to print documents on a printer then make copies (collated, stapled sets) on a copier. I can do it all from my desk then walk over and pick up the finished copies. The time savings for all the people using it makes up for a lot of the cost. If I am not mistaken I believe the print engine and "guts" of it are really a Savin copier/printer and I have seen other brands that look the same so one may be less cost than another for the same thing.

Setting IP adress and integrating with our network was pretty easy too.

We are in the process of looking for a copier/printer/fax/scan
machine now. Right now we have a Lanier that is a copier/printer/fax but
need scan ability. The Lanier that we have now is very reliable. The new
Lanier copier that we are looking at has a lot of neat features (ex. You can
route all fax documents into a mailbox and that person can email them to who
they should go to or delete them). Anyway, the black and white is
approximately $14,000 (that includes a one year service agreement and all
the toner you can use). The color copier/printer is $15,000 with a one year
service agreement and all the toner you can use. The only catch is, on the
color copier, you pay $.09 per color copy printed and $.01 for every B/W.

I have been very happy with our Konica copier which also doubles as our
network printer, scanner and backup fax machine. They have merged with
Minolta so their product offering has changed recently. I am waiting on
info for the newest model that does color. It is supposed to still do black
and white copies for the same copy cost as a black and white only copier.
The early color models would do b&W but the copy cost for the b&w was way
too high.

Ours is a 7022, don't know the new model numbers yet. Not sure what size
you need, this runs 120,000 copies per year for us. The scanner converts to
pdf on the fly and emails you the scan. Really nice when you don't have an
electronic copy of a drawing. Its our workhorse machine shared by 15 users.

For my home office I use a Brother multi-function laser. Nice machine for
$350.

Dina,

We bought 2 Canon Image Runners (2800 & 5000) and cannot complain one bit.
They both copy, print and scan (one at 28 ppm the other at 50 ppm)
Both have been rock steady performers
In the smaller of the two we added faxing and love that functionality as well.
Both of these machine only do black and white.
Both machines can do 11x17 if you wish. It just takes adjusting any paper drawer for the size paper you want.
We like this feature, once a year we need to print on legal size paper so we just adjust one of the drawers run the job and then change it back.... done.
These machines can come pretty plain or you can add all the extra bells and whistles.
Their newer versions offer color, I don't know the costs however.
Highly recommend Canon.
