Does the thing keep any kind of log file? One of the cheap 3-Coms is
identical with the SMC Barricade I use at home -- on the SMC, I can force
a hang up, then when it reconnects, check the log and see which internal IP
tried to open which port. You'll probably find it's DNS traffic from your
NT boxes.

Why, Billy's, of course :) There is an optional "critical update
notification" utility that is probably installed. Should be able to
deinstall it, or cut down it's frequency of checks. It usually runs with a
try icon to access it.

My 3COM dialup router used for coonection to the internet is not
disconnecting after the 30 minutes of inactivity as specified in setup.
Something is keeping this connection open and I can not find the culprit.
All PC's are shut down each night and that leaves only print servers and (3)
NT4.0 servers active during this time.

Are there any utility programs that will analyse the tcp/ip activity to tell
me what is hitting the router?

My 3COM Lan Modem at our other location is doing the same thing. I did find
that Win2000 sets up a check for updates that runs every 5 minutes 24/7.
Who's great idea was that??

I've run out of ideas, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
