Off Topic - Windows 2000 - HELP

Dina,

Are you using the Windows CD or the Dell "software recovery" CD? Sometimes
that can be the source of a conflict.

Dina,

Are you using the product key for a upgrade cd with on OEM CD or vice versa?
If so you will get the message

The PID is invalid for this version of Windows 2000, provide the PID that
came with the Windows 2000 CD.

or
The PID is invalid for this version of Windows 2000, provide the PID that
came with the Windows 2000 Upgrade CD.

Hope this helps.

I have a Dell PC that I need to reinstall the O.S. The hard drive
died. I put in a new hard drive and upgraded a few items, (memory ,
processor). Now my problem is when I go to install the o.s. (Windows
2000) it states my product key is correct. I know this code is
correct. Is micro$oft coding something on the processor or how many
times it has been installed?

Any help would be appreciated, - of course this is for my boss.

Dina,
I've reinstalled Win2000Pro a number of times without it counting or even registering (unlike XP Pro). I don't know about OEM version, however.

That's the first I have ever heard of something like this.

I have installed Windows 2000 Pro on the same computer a number of times.
