OpenEdge TYPE II storage

Steve,

I looked for that documentation on the Epicor site as well, and only found
a vague recommendation in the "Epicor 9 Performance Tuning Guide -
Progress" that stated "Use Type II data area block areas.".

I put in a call to tech support on the Type II question, and will let you
know what I hear back. Also, if you could share any parameter settings you
found useful, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

TYPE II storage areas were introduced in OpenEdge 10 and investigation indicates a number of storage optimization advantages. But, I have yet to see any documentation from Epicor mentioning Type II storage configuration. It is also not touched on in any Epicor admin training classes.

Is anyone here using TYPE II storage areas with your Vantage or Epicor implementation?

Bill,

Did you ever get an answer about the TYPE II storage areas? We have recently been experiencing performance issues after being live on Epicor 9.05.606 for about a year and a half now. I created a ticket with Epicor support to ask for their help and specifically asked for their blueprint on how the storage areas should be setup for their database and was told they do not have such a document. I was referred to their Professional Services Group. I have done my own testing in our development environment to switch from TYPE I to TYPE II. It is an easy straight forward process but I haven't been able to see if it fixes any performance issues since my development environment doesn't get the load that my production does. We have made other adjustments to the database and app server parameters to help some but plan to do a dump and load to switch to TYPE II in a few weeks.
