Optional operation

If you run one job on machine 2 on operation 20, delete operation 30 or mark
it complete.
If you run one job on both machine 1 and 2 you may also want to consider a
lot split.
Lot one on machine 1, lot two on machine 2.
Then you will know historically where the parts were ran and by who.

Subject: [Vantage] Optional operation

May be a stupid question, but it's the first time I have dealt with this
situation.

Two machines can run a particular operation (20). If machine 1 runs the
parts, additional operation (30) on machine 3 will be required. If machine
2 runs parts, operation (30) is not required. Machine 2 uses no more
overhead or employee time than machine 1. Typically parts are run on
machine 1 because machine 2 can run additional parts that machine 1 can not
and therefore is commonly used for the other parts. Depending on demand of
the moment, machine 2 may be used, eliminating the need for operation (30).
The decision on what machine runs the part is not made until the parts are
being started (4 weeks after the job starts and after subcontract operation
(10) has been completed).

How would you set this up to reflect this scenario most accurately in
Vantage?

Employee runs both operations at the same time if machine 2 is used (split
time/burden)? Employee skips op 30 if machine 2? Modify job as operation
starts?

Any suggestions are appreciated.
