[OT] Access 2000

I have a user that would like to distribute a database that he built to
some of the terminals out in our shop. They only need to view the
information. How can I get these other PC's to view a database without
purchasing an Access license. I thought there used to be a way you
could make an exe of a database for distribution. Did they take this
away in 2000? I also haven't found a Microsoft access viewer. Would
Openoffice or StarOffice work? I am researching this but I don't know
what would be the BEST option.

TIA,

Juliet

PS. Still haven't solved the mystery of the outlook appointments
appearing hours off on XP computers.

You need Microsoft Access or Office Developers edition that contains the
runtime files need to run an Access database without Office installed. Its
found on the Developers disk but not installed to your hard drive during
installation.

Juliet,

In the past I have sent Access data to an excel spread sheet. I have also
created a HTML page to view and add to the database this is done through the
pages function in Access. You should be able to find out how through the
help Menu's.

Actually, there is a solution that is even cheaper than this. Just go to the
Microsoft website and download the Access 2000 runtime program itself.

Installs for free on any computer and as far as I can tell you need no
licenses. Just like another viewer.

Great program, we use it all the time.

Sorry, but I'm not certain where Microsoft keeps it any longer on their
site, I do know that it is not easy to find. So good luck with that. If all
else fails, maybe I can get you a copy some other way.

Sorry for passing along incorrect information a little while back, but I
just noticed this from Microsoft's website regarding the Access 2000 runtime
program.

If you use this program and DO NOT own a copy of Microsoft Office
Developer's edition, read this.

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 243957
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b243957

Seems like this program does need licensing after all, which kinda does and
kind of doesn't make sense, but it is Microsoft.

Sorry about that,
