(OT) Atomic Clock Synching Sites

Mac OS 8.5 has software built in to be able to use NISTime.
Check:
http://www.boulder.nist.gov/timefreq/service/its.htm
for a PDF file with instructions for using NIST's time service with a Mac.

Hi everyone!

Does anyone have a list of DEPENDABLE sites that you can synch your server's atomic clock? I have used 2 or 3 different sites but they seem to be down every other day.

The current site that I'm using is: time-nist.nw.gov

But, that site is now down too! Any suggestions?

http://www.atomictime.net/

I've been using this site forever, and it really works good. I have seen it
down only once in about 6 years of using it now.

May I also ask what you are using to sync your computer's to the atomic
time? I gave up on all the UNDEPENDABLE software out there and finally
programmed my own which works really great on a server as a service and then
automatically syncs all the client station times as well. But
unfortunately, for some reason it all of a sudden stopped syncing the time,
and I don't have the time to go figure out my own (sloppy) code.

I'm just curious what everyone else uses, Freeware would be best.

w32time (Windows Time Service) works great in our WIN NT 4 server/Win2000
Pro Client environment. It has worked flawlessly since it was set up years
ago. I have a server on each of my subnets that sync's to the atomic clock
and then all of my clients sync to the internal server on their subnet. Free
and dependable.

There's a very useful resource for public NTP time servers located at
http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~mills/ntp/servers.html

I use our ISPs time server as our main synch source but a number of servers
from the secondary list on that site as backups.

After dumping AtomicClockSync awhile back (after 3rd time I came in on a Monday and it said it was still Sunday) I found NISTIME32. It has worked very well so far to automatically check and update the time once a day. The sites I have set it to check are:
NIST-DC.GLASSEY.COM and UTCNIST.COLORADO.EDU. NIST is the National Institute of Standard and Technology at the US Dept. of Commerece. Check out http://nist.time.gov/ and http://www.boulder.nist.gov/timefreq/service/its.htm (for free download of NISTIME)

I really took a simple approach to this. I was loosing a minute a month or
so and needed to do something.

I installed AboutTime. http://www.tucows.com/preview/195339.html. I
configured AboutTime to update time and exit. Then I went to Scheduled
Tasks under my computer (which is basically a GUI for AT) and the set
AboutTime to run on Sunday afternoon each week.

This solved my problem, quick easy, and low tech. Did I say free.
