The Dell Dimensions I purchase come with a ""Reinstallation CD". I delete
the partition, hit escape and select a fresh install. I don't select restore
to Factory Config. On fresh installs you don't get the bloatware but you
will have to load drivers however.

Pat,

What do you do with the systems that are no longer delivered with OEM
operating system disks? IE. The systems that come with re-installation
disks that restore "Factory" configurations?

I do a fresh install on every new pc received. I gets rid of all the freebee
junk the vendor installs.

Not sure if I had previously posted this but here it goes. This is a
questions and nothing more. Has anyone ever purchased a pc or server
that arrived with either the wrong OS (not the one you ordered) or
problems with the functionality of the OS that was installed? Thanks
in advance. I don't need to know who the vendor is just if anyone
has ever experienced this.

Yes, surprisingly it happens quite frequently (depending on the vendor - I
won't mention names).

That's why I ALWAYS make certain to Format C and reinstall the O/S upon
arrival. You have no idea how many problems that will keep away from you in
the future (especially when PC vendors put "junk" on there like AOL,
Napster, (vendor specific apps), and Music and video "fun" programs. Not to
mention other unmentionables.

If I have to service a PC in my computer, I want to know EXACTLY what is
installed on it, end of story.

Yes but it is sort of intentional. I buy with XP loaded and install Win2K. I always reformat the drive to clean out the proprietary junk that gets installed by vendor. Once I did get XP-Home loaded instead of XP-Pro but it made no difference since I was going to delete it anyway. Only hassle is having to reload all the drivers.
