Jim,
Ignore the advice to change the SID, if doesn't apply and will instead
set you off on a new adventure. All that is happening is that the PC
is attempting to use the local account to login instead of the
domain account.
Check two things:
Control Panel -> Users Accounts -> Advanced ->
Put a check mark in "Require Users to press CTRL+ALT+DEL"
(This will force the display of the logon dialog, where the
local or domain context can be selected)
(If this is XP Home, congratulations. To get to the above
location, make sure you are and Administrator. From the
"Run" dialog, type "CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2" and click OK)
REGEDIT
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Microsoft
WindowsNT
CurrentVersion
WinLogon
Examine the keys "DefaultUserName", "DefaultPassword" and
"DefaultDomainName". Edit as required, then reboot.
have fun,
john
