[OT] File Locks after using Access file

Brian,
You bring up another interesting possibility with the "repair" option. I went to the "System DSN" and there is an option to 'repair' the database. The message said that the database was unable to be repaired. Other databases in the current situation could be repaired. However, I created a new database from scratch (linking the .csv files and making the queries again) and the new database (and new DSN) had the same results so I took a different road.

Is there another way to repair a database?
I'll do as you suggest to open the DB from a Work station and see what happens.

Troy,

What happens when you open the DB from a work station. Watch that
location in Windows explorer, you should see the LDB appear when you
enter, does it disappear when you leave?

Does the admin user you are logging into have "Full Control" over the
folder and the files where the MDB is located?

What could've changed recently?

Another thing you could try is to run the "Repair Database" utility
in Access on this MDB file. If all your rights are fine, maybe
something got corrupted?

I'm seeing a stange phenomenon that I can't unravel, I hope I can explain it clearly and someone might have a clue...

After connecting to an Access file ("C-Export.mdb") via a Crystal Web report, when I close the report (browser), it for some reason leaves the DSN locked up so that I cannot run the report again. It gives me an error: "Error detected by database DLL. [On Pager Server: NT.pagserver]"

Oddly, after running the report there is a new file in the same directory where "C-Export.mdb" is located called "C-Export.lbd". It cannot be deleted (Access denied) and is somehow created automatically when I run the report. The only way to unlock the file (deleting the file seems to 'unlock' the report), is to reboot the NT machine which runs Crystal Web.

Any idea why this is suddenly happening?

Other notes: The Access file "C-Exports.mdb" is linked to three .csv data files which are exported from Vantage. I can open the "C-exports.mdb" file just fine, as well as the three .csv files. They are not locked, but the "C-exports.lbd" file is locked. I am accessing the Access file via a "System DSN" using the Microsoft Access ODBC driver.

Troy,

I don't know for sure if this is your problem, but I thought I'd give
it a shot. I've done a lot with Access DB's over the years and I
know that Access automatically creates an LDB when someone enters the
MDB. The LDB is required for a DB to be shared, it controls record
locking. I have, in the past, had some troubles with LDB's not
disappearing on exit of the DB like they are supposed to, which is
what it sounds like your problem is. My first hunch is to check the
network rights on the folder that contains the MDB. I assume you are
using some sort of admin login for your Crystal Web Server, and that
user needs to have at least Change rights on the folder containing
the MDB. This is so the LDB can be created and deleted upon entering
and exiting the MDB. Check this out and let me know if it helps or
not.

Brian,
That's interesting. I didn't know that the LDB got created by Access. In this case the folder is a public shared folder and Crystal has administrative rights on the pageserver. Also, this was never a problem before yesterday and I've been running reports this way for months.
A new piece of information to the puzzle is that if I shutdown the 'Crystal pageserver' service on the Crystal Web NT station, and then restart it, the reports are viewable again (just once before they lock up again).
