OT-File Storage

The TeraServer pro is a fine piece of equipment with the exception of
throughput. We use one for backup storage, and it works great, but
since speed is one of your requirements, I wouldn't recommend it.
You would be much better off spending the extra dough on a file
server with dual gigabit NICs (As long as your switch supports
gigabit)

My file server is maxing it's capacity and I need to expend my
storage. I currently have engineering attaching their files in
Vantage from a mapped location for engineering files.

I need a solution that will allow me to move all those files from the
file server to this new storage location and still maintain the mapped
letter drive.

I also need the solution to be fast. My engineering team runs
mastercam and some other intense CAD/CAM systems and would like to run
the files from the server instead of copying them locally, editing and
sending them back.

I was recommended to get a buffalo teraserver pro II. Would that be
adequate?

Can anyone share what the best practice would be?

Thanks in advance,
Ben
I really like what I have seen with the Equalogic iSCSI solution. My plan
was to purchase this solution fairly soon. However, Dell just bought them
out ($1.4 Billion). I suspect this was a move to increase the value
offering of Dell Server Blades to better compete with HP.

Either way, I am in a situation where I do not need to purchase immediately
so I am opting to wait and see how Dell will package this. My guess is Dell
is going be in a position where they can offer it cheaper do to their high
volume production methods.

Subject: [Vantage] OT-File Storage

Thanks in advance,
Ben
