OT: Gauge Calibration Software

Procedurally, we only have one or two people that handle the entire calibration process and interact with the database, so we really don't run into what you are describing that I know of. It has been quite a while since I was invovled with that specific program.

We're currently using GAGEtrak (now v6.62) for gauge calibration and
logging. We just realized that a gauge can be "PASSED" even if the
measurements of the gauge are outside of the specified limits, and that
the "PASSED" status checkbox is not at all tied to the entered-results
of measurements. Because of this, we're able to set the status to
"PASS" for a gauge for which no measurements were entered. In this
particular case the operator claims he performed the calibration,
entered the data, and a "glitch" wiped out the measurement info, but I'm
skeptical and even if he did, the "out-of-spec" measurements should
prevent him from "PASSING" the gauge anyway, which the software does not
prevent.

GAGEtrak tells me this functionality is by design. As such, we're in
the market for a new software package, and I was wondering what members
of the list were using?

Thanks in advance!

We were looking into GageTrak some years ago, but we were told that the Advanced Quality module for Vantage would do what we needed. Unfortunately, we never purchased either, but if you haven't already done so, you might look into the Advanced Quality Module.

We have used GageTrak here for years as well as a separate Preventative Maintance database and will be evaluating both these new modules when the time for replacement comes.

I was not sure what version of Epicor you are on. Sorry if this sounds like a commercial, but this is a new option ...

We use AQM, which is really rebranded IQS, and it tracks gage/instrument calibrations for us. The IQS software is clunky at best. I can't say I recommend it.

The Epicor authored 9.05 quality module is called Enhanced Quality and offers more than the built-in QA module and less than IQS. I haven't actually played with it yet, so I don't know what it lacks.

Brad -

How do you deal with the fact that a gauge can be approved even if
measurements are outside spec? Do you separate the role of "measuring"
from "passing" using different users/logins to the system? In other
words, are only "managers" allowed to enable the "Pass" check-box?

I have no plans to move from v8 to v9 ANY time soon.
