One point of clarification one of my engineers made

Our customer requires that we mark the parts with "machine
engraving". The customer does not allow us to use laser marking

Got another Off Topic question
We are looking at having to engrave some of our parts with various
information (AKA Serial numbers, bar codes etc) for one of our customers
I am looking for a source for a Industrial engraver to engrave our
parts.
One stipulation is it must be able to handle cylindrical parts as well

Do a search on engraves in google and you get all kinds of jewelry
related items etc

Anyone have any thoughts of where to get such a device?

I am not sure this is what you want but try Telesis. They are located in
Circleville Ohio, I think.

We use the Styliner from Geo. T. Schmidt Inc. to engrave part numbers on
tubes. We have 3 machines and they work very well.

Check out a company called Laservall their number is 401-724-0076. We
have a laser marking system of theirs that does a great job for all our
parts. After ordering a computer to push it we put about $50,000 in it, but
it saves so much time it's worth it.

We have looked at one from Dapra Marking Systems and one from Monode. I was
not involved with it, so I don't have much info. I think they are dot peen
style marking systems. The demo I did get to see was quite impressive.

We also use small hand-held engravers for temporary (in-process) needs, but
it's not very professional looking, and I don't know what depth we can
achieve with them. It's a vibro-peen set up, Burgess Vibro-Engraver Model
74 @ about $40.00 from McMaster Carr.

We have two Telesis pin marking systems (800) 867-8670 -- one of them is at
least 8 years old and is used to mark apprx. 80,000 round valves a year.
Their tech support folks are terrific (and patient).
