OT:Microsoft Software "One Note"

Yes you have to activate, but I guess the pay off is when decides to up
grade. I am going to show my boss. He got a high end PDF for Christmas,
still hasn't figured out what to do with the silly thing yet. He may like
One Note. I read the fine print on the package and didn't get concerned,
it's fully functional. I've had it installed for a week with no issues.
And I really do like OneNote, it fits the way I do things.

I actually contacted Microsoft about this. I was told it's part of what
they call a "seed program" to get you to try the software and get you hooked
so that you spend a lot of money getting lots more copies. It is, in fact,
a fully functional version with no strings attached!

I received a couple copies of this "no strings attached" deal too but have
not tried it due to a certain uneasiness about anything with no strings
attached. So....how does this work? Do they require you to register and
"activate" the product? Any lack of full functionality?

Thanks,

Recently, Microsoft (not MikeLowe-soft) sent me a full professional version
of Office 2003 (Free, no strings, not a demo, no time limit, out of the
blue). Included was a software package called OneNote. If you are
considering the purchase of OneNote, imho, it's worth the cost. A very
flexible searchable note keeping system that also allows editing handwritten
text from a PDF or Tablet PC. Nicely done MS. Oh yes, Office 2003 is pretty
slick too.

Can anyone recommend a scanner for creating tif's that will work faster than
a flat bed and can sheet feed up to 3 or 4 pages in a sheet feeder?

Patrick

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Not cheap and way overkill for just scanning (also B&W only) but our Richo Aficio Copier/Fax/Printer and now Scanner can do this. What we didn't know at the start was that the feature that allows things like faxes to be stored in memory can be connected to via the machine's IP address. They have a cute little memory access program that allows me to scan a bunch of pages to memory then access the memory from my desktop via the machines IP address. Then I can "export" the images via their graphic viewer. I can scan pages at about 1 every 2 seconds from the regular document feeder. Best part was we didn't have to buy the "scanner" funcationality they wanted to sell us for a couple grand more. The connect/viewer program was free from the Ricoh web site.

We have 3 HP ScanJet 6300c with 25 sheet feeders and they work great. You
can share these scanners on the net so multiple people can share one
scanner. We have one for the engineering department, one for the
administration department and one for the quality department.

They don't make the 6300c any more but they have the 5550c (about $299) with
a 35 page feeder for 8 1/2 x 11 or the 8200c (about 499) can do up to legal
size.

This is the device we use. My QA group maintains about 10,000 scanned
material certifications on our image server.
It has multiple sheet feeder, and works much like a copier.

Patrick,

I second Pablo's recommendation. We're using a Fujitsu ScanPartner fi-4120
(about $900) and getting 20+ ppm out of it. It is sheet-fed only. Will do
color and bw at the same speed.

The 620C's run about $1400 new but they are great. You can also find referb units on ebay for allot less. These are SCSI btw.
We use 3 HP 9100C Digital Senders. They scan BW or Color Tiff and PDFs. Each
drafter in our engineering department has a custom menu, with predefined
settings, at the scanner to automatically scan to a personal network drive
for use with our PDM system. Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing,
and Quality all use the Digital Senders. You can email directly from the
scanner. It will do LDAP with you mail server so you can lookup mail
addresses. You can send directly to a network printer. We got two of our
three scanners from eBay. Over the years, we have only required service
once. A management tools allows you to clone configurations between Digital
Senders.

If you will be in the market for a new copier soon. We also use a
Copier/Scanner combination. We have a Cannon iR2200 (black&white) and a
Cannon iRC3200 (color). Scanning is a standard function for these.

I received a couple copies of this "no strings attached" deal too but have not tried it due to a certain uneasiness about anything with no strings attached. So....how does this work? Do they require you to register and "activate" the product? Any lack of full functionality?

Thanks,

Subject: [Vantage] OT:Microsoft Software "One Note"

Recently, Microsoft (not MikeLowe-soft) sent me a full professional version
of Office 2003 (Free, no strings, not a demo, no time limit, out of the
blue). Included was a software package called OneNote. If you are
considering the purchase of OneNote, imho, it's worth the cost. A very
flexible searchable note keeping system that also allows editing handwritten
text from a PDF or Tablet PC. Nicely done MS. Oh yes, Office 2003 is pretty
slick too.

Shirley

P.S. - I'm not selling out just giving due credit

Now it they would only send me about 80 -free- copies ... that would be
REALLY nice.

Thanks,
-Todd C.
