Mitchell:
We have an HP LASER 1200e that is a printer/copier/scanner. It prints 12
ppm, and seems content to be in our inventory area (oil, dust, the usual
shop stuff). It cost $575 last fall, so is either obsolete or cheaper by
now. Make sure you order the printer with the copier/scanner attachment --
even though you can buy the attachment separately, it takes FOREVER to get
them. It even scans in color, although it only prints black (of course).
It is also NOT A FLATBED copier, so it requires a person who knows better
than to stuff something in there with glop or staples or paper clips in it.
We got it mainly because of not having minimum copy capabilities in that
area, and it's a long trip to the closest copier. And, of course it's the
usual "workhorse" HP Laser, refills around $60-70, but they print around
1500 - 2000 pages.

Subject: [Vantage] OT: Multi-Function devices in the shop
We are planning on printing shipping documents in the shipping department
instead of walking them out to shipping. My first thought was a small laser
printer of some type. Probably an HP since we have had good luck with them.
The old copier in shipping died recently. Does anyone have any experience
with laser copier/printers in a shop environment? I'm worried that it won't
hold up. The number of copies will be very small.
