OT: NAND Flash Memory RE: Database performance(Mor

They are really different things. NAND in used in things like flash drives
and SSDs. DRAM is your normal RAM. There is a lot of speculation/prediction
that NAND will get fast enough to alleviate the need for RAM, but it's still
a ways off.

To the best of my knowledge, no one makes RAM based on NAND chips as DRAM is
still much cheaper and faster. As the process for making NAND is inherently
more complex and expensive than DRAM, I doubt you will ever see NAND based
memory. I imagine it's more likely that SSDs will simply reach a speed where
conventional RAM is no longer necessary.

Prior to adding more memory and upgrading to 2003 enterprise we would restart the server due to the fact that the memory usage is at 4GB at the end of the week.

We have installed additional 8GB of memory but still performance drops once we get to that 4GB mark on the memory. I do notice the mfgwrk folder clears about 5gb of temp files on the restart as does the oe101b_wrk have about 2gb getting cleared.

Should I be changing my appserver settings to use the addional memory?
Running a 32 bit server.... I am not sure how much you can do. The application itself is an 32 bit application and as such may not be able to reference the extra RAM.

If you are progress, the only thing I can think of that might make a difference is to adjust the Blocks in database buffers.

If you're running a 32-bit machine you'll need to have PAE enabled to see
more than 4gb of ram. If your on server 2003, I believe you'll need the
Enterprise version as well.
Any individual progress process won't be able to access beyond 4gb, but with
each appserver being its own thread, I doubt this will present much of a
problem.

You'll need to adjust your progress config before it will use the extra
memory, the performance tuning guide has all the details.

Why don't you setup a batch file to clear your tmp folder every night or every other night.
For us this solved our slowdowns.

On a night, stop and start your DBs and Apps and restart them.

This helped us.

Then we also check task manager on the server to see if there are any
_proapsv.exe still left running when Epicor is stopped.

We found recently that some _proapsv.exe were left running when everything was
stopped and they never die. Each ones used 13% CPU so it didnt take many days
before the system slowed right down.

Good Day:

I just saw an article about NAND ( vs. DRAM) memory. Path to the article is attached.

Anyone have any experience with it?
