I have used a lot of different solutions to this problem. We have a
Maxattach, but I wouldn't store CAD files on it. At least not for 10
or more user. A NAS does not have the performace a server does. The
drives have slower data transfer rates and spindle speeds. You also
have to administer them seperatly. They will use Windows security,
but not all of them just insert themselves into your domain. I
purchased a new server after testing the performance with 3D drawings
on our NAS. The extra cost was worth it. You could consider
attaching a drive array to an exsisting server. Most have there own
controllers and memory so they don't add a lot of overhead to an
exsisting server.
