Ann,
I think I can offer you some help, but only on question #2. My
understanding is that the number of occurrences of _mprosrv and _mprshut is
directly related to the number of servers and the minimum and maximum
numbers of clients per server that are specified in your Progress database
configuration. These settings are entered through the Progress Explorer
Tool. To check these settings, you will want to look at the properties for
"defaultServerGroup" under "defaultConfiguration" for the databases you have
running.
Regards,
Scott

Subject: [Vantage] OT-NT 4 Processes
Due to complaints of Vantage running extra slow this morning, I
checked Task Manager. The only Applications running are Netware
popup, Dr. Watson for Windows NT and proexp..., nothing out of the
ordinary. Performance shows CPU usage usually under 10% with
occasional spikes up to 80%. MEM Usage is under 40% as a rule. When
I look at Processes, within the list is _mprosrv.exe listed 20 times
and _mprshut.exe listed 6 times. Questions: 1) How do I find out
what the spikes to 80% are caused from? 2) Is it normal for
_mprosrv and _mprshut to be listed so many times...if not, what to
about it. 3) Is there another place I should be referencing to know
if there are specific problems or loads on the system, ie reports
being run, logins, etc.?? Any tweaking that can be done? Server
specs: 500 MHz, dual processor, smart array controller, RAID 10, 512
mb ram, 2 GB hard drive space remaining, Vantage 5.00.329 has
multiple extents, approx 2.5 GB database. Vantage is run on this NT
server, all other files are on the Novell server (using NDS for NT).
This happens occasionaly throughout the day, but we need to narrow it
down as to why. All input is muchly appreciated on or off-line!
