(OT)Office Uninstall

Thanks everyone! I don't know why I didn't think of sharing another CD drive through the network. It has been one of those weeks for my brain again!

I like Wayne's suggestion too! I think I'll download this utility because I really would like everything from Office stripped from the registry.

Thanks gang!

If you have a CD drive on your server you can "share" it then map it on the
local PC (something like <file://\\> \D$">\\<servername>\D$, where D is
server CD drive) and then put the CD in there and point the uninstall at it.
All our shop PCs are CD-less (and A-less too) so I install to them this way.

Hey everyone!

I have a computer that I want to uninstall Office '97. A long time ago it
was installed via CD on the computer and since then the CD drive had to be
uninstalled and taken out due to too much sneaking around and little
installation devils. Well how do I uninstall Office '97 without the CD? It
prompts me for the CD each time I try to uninstall it. Is there a backdoor
workaround for this? I'd rather not have to hook up a CD drive to the
computer because the cpu is kinda stashed in a corner that is hard to
squeeze back in.

Any ideas gang?

Is the uninstall give you an option to look for the CD-ROM in another
location? If so, map a network drive to another computer that has a CD-ROM
drive and try to uninstall from there. It may work.

Assuming the computer is on the network:

I have been able to do this before by sharing the CD a server (or another
desktop) and connecting to it using the same drive letter that the CD-ROM
drive used. Run the setup program on the CD and it *should* detect the
existing install (if its the same version).

Otherwise, there is a program on the Office CD in the value pack directory
called "offclean". It will completely remove all the Office files, which may
still be in use by other programs, so be careful with that.

Temporarily create a share to the cd-rom drive on another computer in the
network. Then enter the path to that drive when prompted.

Todd's drive mapping trick should work; it might demand that you map it to
the drive letter where the CD was originally.

MS also has an Office Removal utility on their downloads site. It should
have instructions, but basically you run it, then delete what's left of the
\Program Files\Microsoft Office\ directory. This is a good tool to use
before loading later versions of Office; it thoroughly strips all the old
stuff from the registry so it won't interfere with the newer version and
it's quicker than the uninstall routine.
