[OT] Outlook/Exchange - Outbound message failure question

Todd,

I too have a mail gateway that in the past was set to use Osirusoft as well and yesterday at 10:46 AM EDT my SPAM filter started blocking a lot of legitimate e-mail. I finally discovered as well that the Spamhaus project Osirusoft)was to blame. I have removed them from my configuration and all is well again.

Thanks. I think I am on to another angle on this. Today I received a message from ORF (Open Relay Filter) our anti-spam software maker that one of the DNS lookup sites (Osirusoft) has gone out of business. I think my issue may have been fallout from the software trying to reference that list and confusing Exchange. Just a theory. I have to remove Osirusoft from the list of servers to use and then have the user re-try.

Todd,
I also believe you get a message like that if you have an Exchange server,
and you restrict a user or users from emailing each other. If you need more
information on this let me know.

One of my user's is receiving a message from our email server while trying
to send an email message. It is one I have never seen before and I'm not
really sure what it is trying to tell me. Here is the main part of the
failure message:

"You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance,
contact your system administrator. Relaying denied."

Any ideas about what this is or what to do about it? Our "System
Administrator" (me) is pretty dumb about this sort of thing.

Thanks,

It could be that the ISP you are trying to send has setup some kind of
SPAM control and if you don’t have an entire IP Address Range the
reverse DNS is failing. I have a situation where I have a company
hosting DNS and SBC provides me with 30 Static IP’s, so I had to have
SBC give my dns provider authority over our domain, which is (actually a
virtual domain) hosted by SBC. I had the same situation where road
runner (ISP) setup such software and it began denying email from my
domain.
