[OT] PC Memory Types - Conflict?

as DDR-266?

They are the same memory stick. PC2100 is the new naming convention
for memory based on bandwidth and DDR(double data rate)-266 is
the "type" and the front side bus speed.

I have a user with a PC that has crashed frequently for awhile now. At random times it flashes to a blue screen (Win2K Pro is the OS) with message that a Hardware Error Occured and "contact vendor) - then it halts. No reason given.

I am suspecting faulty memory and took out both of the 512MB modules. This is when I noticed that one is DDR 266Mhz and the other states DDR PC2100. Are these the same? If not are they compatible? The particular user does not really need 1GB so I am going to try putting only one module back in and see if the problem goes away. If not I will swap the other in. Actually if the problem stays away I might swap the other one in to "prove" it is bad. If it too works I guess I'll chalk it up to a memory type mismatch.

If one seems bad (or both work seperately) and I look for a replacement does it need to be exactly the same or is PC2100 the same as DDR-266?
