OT-Personal Listening Devices

> Our company has been looking for similar devices, could you tell us where

They are made by bilsom, www.bilsom.com. I was told the model number is
0799. Looking at the web site, I believe they are the "electo" model. We
bought ours through McCordick Glove and Safety.

Hope that helps!

Brian
Hello to everyone,

After 34 years we are still struggling with shop employees' request to use
personal listening devices. We were wondering how others handle this.

Do you allow your worker's to use headphones & personal listening devices
while performing there job?

Thanks,
Kathy Hambleton

We manufacture electronic components and we allow our production workers
to use personal listening devices on the floor. The only area where
they are not allowed is in the cleanroom. Seems to keep everybody happy
and productive.

Strictly prohibited in the plant in any area where heavy machinery exists (pretty much everywhere in a metal stamping setting). Too much of a safety issue - both for wires to headphones/ear plugs and inability to hear warning sounds such as on fork lifts. Also it poses a distraction risk. Finally mandatory hearing protection pretty much makes it impossible and audio headphones don't meet OSHA specs for protection. On the other hand semi-office areas such as QA and the CAD rooms are OK. In the regular office area we recently started to allow radios when we terminated radio over our phone (for on-hold music) and put in a marketing tape because we got tired of the annual ASCAP shakedown.

Our insurance agent advised against their use. He citied workers comp claims
for permanent hearing loss arising from long term exposure to such devices.
Our labor attorney said that if the employer is silent on the issue, they
could be found liable. We do not permit them. We do annual audio-metric
testing to establish a base line, and monitor any potential hearing loss.

Our shop employees can purchase special headphones with a built in radio
(company pays half). It also has a voice-responsive microphone so that you
can still hear someone talking to you without amplifying the background
noise.

Brian
Our company has been looking for similar devices, could you tell us where
you purchase these items.

We currently import all of our orders into Vantage 6.1 via the EDI module.
The orders we pull in have releases on them out to 56 weeks, however we only
create jobs for 3 months or so because we know that anything beyond that
could possibly change and does. My question is, Does anyone have a report or
is there a way in Vantage to show a forecast shop load capacity based on the
sales orders in Vantage.
Do you have the MRP module ?

MRP will create un-engineered jobs based on approved part revisions. The
JobOper table will be populated with required hours by op and
workcenter.

The scheduled load and Capacity can then be viewed in the Vantage
Shopload graphs & reports?

The only thing I don't like is there is no color coding in the shop-load
graph to tell what % of Job hrs is

Un-engineered and what is released.

MRP has been a great tool for us. It has greatly reduced our job release
time. And given us much better

Forecasting abilities.

Ok, like an idiot, I should have read the original message.

You can use the MRP to create UNfirm jobs and then firm them up out to three
months. Basically, you can tell MRP to only create unfirm jobs with a
prefix of 'U' (this is what we do to distinguish what has already been firm
and what is still not firm). When MRP runs again, anything that is still
unfirm gets deleted, creates the new unfirm jobs and you can now firm up to
your three month schedule. This is how we use it.

Sorry for confusing you!

forgot to mention that it will only create a job you have a demand for
(open
Sales Order) and for only the approved revision.

We just got the trial codes from Vantage for the MRP, not really sure
what
Im doing with it yet. Do all parts have to be set in the part master
to
Process MRP before you can see the info?

Do you have the MRP module ?

MRP will create un-engineered jobs based on approved part revisions.
The
JobOper table will be populated with required hours by op and
workcenter.

The scheduled load and Capacity can then be viewed in the Vantage
Shopload graphs & reports?

We currently import all of our orders into Vantage 6.1 via the EDI
module.
The orders we pull in have releases on them out to 56 weeks, however
we
only
create jobs for 3 months or so because we know that anything beyond
that
could possibly change and does. My question is, Does anyone have a
report or
is there a way in Vantage to show a forecast shop load capacity based
on
the
sales orders in Vantage.
