I'm sure that most production control guys report to the Operations /
Plant
manager. I've worked at a place where they reported to Sales and it was a
disaster. Those sales guys kept changing everything 40 times a day and
the
latest customer to call in was the priority of the minute.

Don't have them report to sales!

In official line of responsibility, scheduler, Plant Manager, Executive
Vice President, President. Functionally, the VP of Sales and Marketing will
influence the process heavily at any point in the chain of command..

I am the scheduler and I report to the Plant manager, who in turn reports to
the General Manager.

The problem is ... when the GM changes a portion of the schedule he never
reports it to the plant manager, who in turn cannot report the change to me.
