We have had a similar problem "twice". First time it turned out our vending
machines were on the same circuit as an office area. The computers kept
locking up until we ran a different circuit. The second time it turned out
a specific screen saver and memory combination was the problem. We had a
couple of users whose machines would freeze up. We swapped their machines
out and the replacements developed the same problem. It turned out they
were the only ones using the screen saver. A memory swap fixed the problem.

I'm with Mike on this....change out the cable from your office to the new
switch...also, move a computer that is locking up to another location
(like
your office) and see if it still locks up. If it doesn't it more than
likely is the cable or the cable ends. If that doesn't do it move the QC
switch to a different port on your main switch.

Sounds to me like a problem with the network drop -or- perhaps a failing
port on your hub or switch.

Okay here we go - This is driving me crazy
I have fur machines in our quality department
Of those, three are continually locking up
All are about the same age
All are running Windows 2000 Professional
All are speced out the same - Pentium III 733mnhz, 128 megs ram etc
Every latest service pack out there
SP4 and all the newest security updates
You do a WINDOWSUPDATE and it comes back that they need nothing
Typical apps, such as MS Office etc
____________________________________________________________________________
__________
I have performed the following diagnosis tests
I have taken one machine out and wiped it completely and rebuilt it. -
Still
locks up
All the machines have been scanned for viruses, pests, trojans, with
several
different products - Nothing
I scanned them for the Sasser virus - Nothing
I ran Windows office update and got all the latest patches for Office
I out in a new switch in that department
One machine had a bad case fan and I replaced that
I took a good working machine with no problems from engineering and moved
it
to quality - Guess what - Locks up now
All the "processor fans and Case fans" are operating properly!
____________________________________________________________________________
__________
Two things are driving me crazy about this
#1 - The Quality Manager is not having a problem with his pc
#2 - I have had a machine lock up when I was logged in as Administrator
Machine just freezes
The only thing I am thinking is electrical although our maintenance
department does not think that is it
I have a shielded wire running from the main switch in my office to the QC
Switch - Its heavily shielded though?
I am at a lose at what to do at this point
One guys machine locked up four times before lunch today
Anyone got any ideas? I am at a loss at what to do at this point
No one else in the building is having this problem!
Thanks guys /gals
